Character Name: Tsunayoshi Sawada
Canon: Katekyo Hitman Reborn
Canon History: Katekyou Hitman Reborn was a Gag Manga
Canon Personality:
(Once again, Katekyo Hitman Reborn started life as a gag manga)
When we first meet Tsunayoshi Sawada, he isn't really much. He's clumsy, he's bad at school, he's bad at sports, he's an easy target for bullies. He doesn't have a lot of ambition, he's lazy and he's quick to admit it. If he struggles with something, he gives up. He really only goes to school to see the girl he has a crush on. He's a loser, plain and simple and doesn't really see much future for himself, so why even try really?
This changes with the introduction of his tutor, the hitman Reborn.
Reborn is quick to notice that Tsuna is actually an earnest boy with a lot of potential. He just lacks confidence, and is a magnet for trouble with horrific luck. However, Reborn also decides that the best way for Tsuna to develop that confidence is to toss him into increasingly ridiculous life or death situations, essentially forcing Tsuna to develop the skills he will need as a mafia boss. As a largely down to earth person, Tsuna usually displays comically horrified reactions to Reborn's training methods.
Because of this down to earth nature, Tsuna is often the straight man to his friends' antics. It is a lot of work to prevent explosions, fights, potential assassinations, and provoking school prefect Kyoya Hibari, and most of the time Tsuna is not successful in his endeavours. But not for a lack of trying. And not that he'd trade it for anything, because his friends are extremely precious to him. He cares very deeply for his friends and would do anything to protect them. And as his confidence grows, his friends often look to him as a leader, trusting in his decisions and supporting him as best they can.
Tsuna has a strong sense of intuition, which usually helps him in determining if someone is an enemy or an ally. And even then, Tsuna is quick to sympathize with his enemies, despite previous quarrels. He is also quick to forgive them, and even offer the hand of friendship. Especially if he senses that they weren't necessarily evil in the first place. A second chance is available. However, Tsuna is quick to anger against unjust behaviour, and will stand against those who use their power to subjugate others. But it takes someone truly evil to face the full brunt of Tsuna's wrath.
At the same time, Tsuna can sometimes be too protective, and withhold information in order to keep others safe. This is seen particularly with his civilian friends, such as Kyoko and Haru. He doesn't want them dragged into the world of the mafia and the dangerous battles it holds. It's bad enough that his other friends are dragged into this world as his Guardians, often putting their lives on the line for his sake. He would much prefer to have his normal life, and if he has to fight, it's to protect that life. And not for himself, but for everyone as well.
He does learn that sometimes, sharing the information is the better route, and that he can trust his friends.
Tsuna has a complicated relationship with the mafia and the Vongola. He repeatedly states that he has no desire to be a mafia boss, defining his Guardians as simply his friends. If he can avoid a mafia matter, he will and often tries to get out of anything requiring him to step up as Boss. He goes so far as to state that he would rather destroy the Vongola than take charge of it, especially given its dark and bloody history. But perhaps it is because of that dislike, that Tsuna is best suited to lead. It is often remarked that Tsuna shares a lot of qualities with his ancestor, Vongola Primo, and probably stands the best chance of returning the Vongola to its vigilante roots.
Ultimately, Tsuna is a kind boy with a strong sense of justice. He is the open sky, who accepts everyone freely and fiercely protects his friends and loved ones. It might just take him a little while to get there first.
AU History:
-Tsuna has been living in Kaisou most of his life. He lives with his Mom while his Dad works overseas. He hasn't seen his Dad in several years and is okay with that.
-Tsuna knows about his Dad's mafia connections, and has heard rumblings that he is being considered the heir to the Vongola family. Something about bloodlines? He learned this the last time his Dad was in town, but he doesn't think his Dad knows he knows.
-Tsuna knows about the paranormal happenings in town, and between that and the mafia, resolutely ignores all of it in favour of a normal life.
-We're just gonna ignore the way his eyes turn orange when he's stressed or backed into a corner
-He still sucks at school and regularly skips if he can manage it.
-He can usually be found at his cousin Sora's place if that is the case.
AU Personality Differences:
-Having not met Reborn in this AU, Tsuna is still pretty lazy and lacking ambition, more prone to skipping school and not trying as hard as he could.
-He does try sometimes though
-He has a little bit more confidence though, and probably just needs someone to focus him. But grades and sports are still pretty abysmal.
-Definitely in some denial though. and will look for more logical answers to anything weird that happens around him.
