this isn’t my first time living as a commoner but... it’s my first time living as myself, by myself. and probably the last chance i’ll have to just be a normal kid with normal friends before i take the throne as soon as i return home. i mean, it’s the only chance ive had so far anyway. i don’t want to be treated with all that pomp here

but i can at least just be myself here
not in hiding, not exalted, just.. some guy named zuko.
even before father took the throne, it was never like that. i was still a prince just not crown prince
but once the avatar defeats my father.... i'll be fire lord. and it will be on me to end the war and clean up our mess, make amends for my father, grandfather and great-grandfather's misdeeds.... it's a lot to think about when there's nothing i can do about it until i'm back home.
so being here.... it's an impossible chance for me to be free for a while.. i know that sounds selfish but.... it's been sort of nice.
i mean, being broke sucks, but apart from that..

i had a job in a teashop with my uncle when we were living undercover in the earth kingdom, then my uncle opened his own teashop there so i kept working for him when we moved to a better part of the city.....
and then in the other world i was in, i worked at a teppanyaki restaurant
